Albotherm’s responsive additives are suitable for any application that needs constant and precise temperature regulation.
Global Agriculture
Maintaining optimal growing conditions year-round is highly energy-intensive, with thermal regulation a major contributor to agricultural emissions. Cooling just one hectare of greenhouse can produce up to 13 tonnes of CO₂ per year, and by 2080 climate-driven heat stress could reduce greenhouse crop yields by up to 17.4%. Conventional passive solutions cannot respond dynamically to temperature changes, forcing growers to choose between maximising light transmission or controlling heat, often at the expense of yield.
Albotherm’s adaptive coatings remove this trade-off. Our research trials demonstrated a 34% increase in crop yield, while commercial deployments delivered 59% higher light levels and peak temperatures up to 6 °C cooler than leading agricultural coatings, improving productivity while reducing thermal management demand.
The Built environment
Thermal management in buildings drives significant energy demand, with the International Energy Agency identifying air conditioning as the fastest-growing energy use worldwide, causing around 3% of greenhouse gas emissions. Today, there are around 2 billion air conditioning units in the world, and this demand is set to triple from by 2050.
Albotherm’s smart additives enable passive temperature control in homes and glass-heavy buildings such as skyscrapers and commercial facades, cutting reliance on energy-hungry cooling systems, reducing carbon emissions, lowering operating costs amid rising energy prices, enhancing thermal comfort and occupant wellbeing, and minimising glare.
